S4CCC-SL & PARTNERS COMMEMORATE WORLD EARTH DAY

The Society 4 Climate Change Communication- Sierra Leone (S4CCC-SL) in collaboration with the Pan Africa Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) Sierra Leone Chapter, School Green Club and Hope 4 Ebola Orphans Foundation on Sunday 22nd April 2018 hosted their first Litter Pick event at Hamilton Beach, in the Western Rural area.

The event was organized in a bid to commemorate mother Earth Day.

According to the Executive Director of S4CCC-SL, Alfred Fornah plastic object that we use once and discard or single used plastics, are a growing critical problem of global proportion, adding that that why this year's Earth Day is focused on Ending plastic pollution. " plastic is polluting our environment including our ocean". He said that they embarked on the litter pick exercise to keep the beach clean and prevent trash from entering the ocean.

National Coordinator for the Pan Africa Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) Sierra Leone chapter, Henry David Bayoh said their Earth Day celebration was not only dedicated to the beach clean up they conducted, but was also meant to provide the information and inspiration needed to fundamentally change Sierra Leoneans attitude and behavior about plastic disposal.

Alhassan Sesay, Head of the School Green Club urged Government to intensify it effort in tackling marine Debris, and prevent trash from entering the ocean.

The National Coordinator, Hope 4 Ebola Orphans Foundation, Williams Tieh in his statement commended S4CCC-SL for what he described as a laudable exercise. He hoped that the campaign will yield it expected outcome.

Meanwhile, S4CCC- SL was established in 2016 to communicate information about Climate Change, it impacts and innovative strategies to help Sierra Leone adapt to it new climate reality.
