INNOVATIVE 'TREES 4 SANDA SCHOOLS' LAUNCHES IN KARENE
Pupils and teachers from schools across Sanda Magbolontor gathered in Chiefdom capital, Sendugu yesterday to attend the ram-packed launch of Society 4 Climate Change Communications innovative 'Trees 4 Schools' Project.
After hearing from speakers a boy and girl from each school received a project pack of stationary and two cashew saplings Pupils from Sendugu Junior Secondary, Manays RC Primary, Makelekos and RoYema DEC Primaries and Mayeamie Student Welfare Primary schools attended the official launch of the climate action initiative hearing from climate diplomat and activist, Alfred Fornah and Mama Mayila about the urgency of tackling deforestation as well as Pa Alimamy Conteh, Regent Chief and the Chiefdom Speaker lending their full support to this environmental climate action project.
Ceremonial plantings took place at Sendugu and Manays to mark the official launch of the innovative climate action initiative with S4CCC' Director and Mama Mayila, Hope 4 Ebola Orphans aiming to restore the degraded forests of Sanda Magbolontor, ravaged by deforestation, with productive trees, improving nutrition for pupils and generating income for schools..
As well raising awareness about the crucial role trees play in supporting life on earth and fighting climate change, schools in the programme will plant native hardwood trees donated by the Government to help reforest the nation.
Society 4 Climate Change Communication is proud to partner with Hope Sakuma, delivery partner for the innovative climate action project in Karene and who also generously donate cashew saplings to each participating school with the promise of breadfruit and plantain next season to support school feeding programmes and boost child nutrition in a Chiefdom where a quarter of the population live in food insecurity.
