ECO BASED ADAPTATION BOOSTS SIERRA LEONE FOOD SECURITY

Society 4 Climate Change Communications were happy to accompany Mo Bangura from Hope 4 Ebola Orphans, a member and early adopter of the EBAFOSA ethos, to pay a courtesy call on Mr Jusu at the EBAFOSA (Eco Based Adaptation Food Security Assembly) offices to catch up on some good progress and introduce Hope’s sustainable farming offshoot Hope Sakuma.

Following October's successful Agri Business Conferance we were interested to learn of forward plans for innovative clean energy powered agricultural industrial zones and to hear that one of the Governments top new direction priorities is to intensify rice production levering in private sector investment to reduce the country’s reliance on imported rice by 2030.

Mr Jusu explained that EBAFOSA are making good progress developing a database of farming organizations and organizations working on agricultural issues and the EBAFOSA team were currently delivering pilot nutrition workshops in the Southern province educating participants on the value of the food they produce and the importance of a balanced diet. Mo commended Mr Jusu and EBAFOSA:

“your persistence and stoicism are admirable and it is clear that these qualities are now ensuring some success. We look forward to continue working together to advance the EBAFOSA agenda and help deliver the sustainable development goals.”

S4CCC and EBAFOSA agreed to meet again to develop a workshop component on diversifying into drought-resistant crops to help comunities adapt to climate change and Mo promised that Hope's Director, M'Mayila Yansaneh, would visit on her upcoming trip to further explore collaborative projects.
