SIERRA LEONE WELCOMES SEEDS 4 GROWTH

International charity, Global Giving, the Office of the Diaspora and Society for Climate Change Communications conducted a fact-finding trip to Sierra Leone's Malal Chiefdom, visiting Seeds 4 Growth a diaspora-led organization promoting sustainable agriculture in Tonkolili district.

At a ram-packed meet at Rochen, Pa Alimamy Sanda Bangura, Regent Chief of Malal thanked Seeds for Growth for their support, especially the training and practical help with maize seeds and fertilizer.

"If we have more supports like these seeds, fertilizer and tools we can increase our farming activities and use the proceeds to support our children's education."

The team visit Masugbay maize fields and groundnut farm witnessing examples of the good work undertaken by Seeds 4 Growth boosting nutrition and livelihoods and taking time to talk to some of the women farmers to better understand their challenges.

Speaking directly to the farmers, Dalila Sumani, Global Giving field tracker tells the assembled throng that Seeds 4 Growth is doing some really outstanding work in the Chiefdom, saying:

"I am really impressed by the work of Seeds 4 Growth is doing in Malal to impact the lives of farmers so positively."

This most laudable project is the brainchild of Mr Kapri Turay a former asylum-seeker now living in the Netherlands for 20 years and started with Momodu Sheku Kamara, agronomist and Ben Bolland, Dutch citizen, each motivated to eradicate poverty and help develop the lives of poor farmers in rural Sierra Leone by providing education and training in sustainable farming techniques, giving seed, fertilizer and farm machinery.
