RAINY SEASON STORM STRIKES FREETOWN, BO, MAKENI

June 22nd's rainy season storm, tho brief, wrought some havoc across Salone. Mercifully, there was no loss of life or injuries suffered and no families displaced.

Worst affected was undoubtedly Bo City where 45 minutes of torrential rain and high winds saw rooves blow off Bo East Police HQ, the police accommodation there and the compound’s school.

Makeni similarly suffered some measure of property damage with Birch Memorial School also losing its roof.

And in Freetown half an hour of heavy rains saw some flash flooding and Samba gutter briefly overwhelmed but the effects cleared quickly, benefitting from the recent clearing of dirty from our drainages on our first two National Cleaning Days.

It is clear that Freetown City Council’s new Flood Mitigation Plan of Action starting Sunday can’t start soon enough to further reduce the risk to life and property from our rainy season.
